There has been a lot happening here in the last few weeks, but the biggest and best thing wasn't part of my schooling :) I flew out to Los Angeles, CA for four days and visiting my aunt, uncle and cousins. I had so much fun! My cousin Tessa attends UCLA and Aunt Laura and I met her one day for a picnic and then toured the sculpture gardens. Tessa explained the sculptures to me and they were all pretty amazing. We walked on the beach and the Pacific was as cold as always. We went shopping a few times and I got Christmas shopping done foe several of my family members. We went to a 4D movie where I was supposed to feel the wind, snow, etc...but apparently those sensations only occur in the front couple of rows, and that's not where we were! Lastly Uncle Kevin, Aunt Laura, Tessa and I went to the Santa Monica Pier one evening. It is a tame amusement park out on a pier into the ocean. We had so much fun on the mild roller coaster, the drop zone and especially the bumper cars. It was just the four us in the cars at first and we were making so much noise laughing that after a few minutes, the cars filled up with people who wanted to have as much fun as we were having!
When I got home, my new roommate Lily, had moved in. Lily is my age, from Philadelphia, and we are having a blast rooming together. She is somewhat of an exercise fanatic, and as much as my Mom would want me to participate with her, that's not going to happen!
We had a snowstorm last week and again this week and it has been an interesting experience. Obviously when I leave in the morning, the sidewalks aren't shoveled yet. That make traveling to the bus stop a bit of a challenge as I don't know where the sidewalk begins and ends. It was also very windy yesterday, which added to the excitement of that whole experience.
I have made carmel apples and enchiladas and both have been good. I went to a public hearing for public transportation because the bus route that I take is facing elimination, and even though we had a lot of support, it is still planned for Jan. 1. I'm not sure what my options will be at that point.
This weekend is the state National Federation for the Blind convention which I will attend Friday through Sunday.
