The summer program ended with a banquet. First the staff served the students, then some of the students served all of the guests. Afterwards, there was a talent show. There were about 17 different people who did things. Most of them sang. Some were pretty good...others no so good :)
The next day we packed and cleaned our apartment to prepare to leave the following day. We did a REAL good cleaning, not like the ones we had done before. I had done most of my packing the day before. I just had to pack toiletries and my laundry. I went to bed early, since I had to get up for my flight out early the next morning... I am coming home!
The next day, Friday, I flew out at about 12, although we left the apartment by 7 because other students were leaving as well. I had a layover in Atlanta and I didn't get home til about 8. It was a pretty long day and by the end I know I was tired. I hadn't told my grandma that I was coming home, and so on the way home we stopped in and surprised her. It was so good to see her. She was quite shocked! She said, "I thought I was seeing things" It was a great day. I missed seeing two of my aunts who had visited my Grandma over the summer, but I was able to see my Aunt Pat who was visiting from TX, for a little while. I hadn't seen her in 9 years.
I am very glad I participated in the Summer Youth Program. I think it helped prepare me for what I will experience and learn in the adult/intense program. I feel like I can cook a few small things, I learned how to do my laundry, clean a whole house, worked on new technology things and my travel skills are still a work in progress! I am hoping to be able to have someone, like my doctor, look at my knee and hopefully it will be ok. It survived many falls and while I will have a scar for the rest of my life, I will have a story to tell to go along with it!
